Introduction

Hello everyone, yesterday I published part-1 of Active and Passive Voice. In that article, I explained about Affirmative and Interrogative. today I am going to share ‘Active and Passive voice part-2’. and in this article, you will read about Imperative sentences. After reading this article properly, you will be able to use them in the sentences on how to change an active voice to passive voice. Let’s talk about it.

Imperative Sentences

Imperative Sentences: Those sentences by which we get to know about Order, Command, Advice, Request, Proposal, and Suggestion.

  • Q) How can we identify whether a sentence is an imperative sentence or not?
  • Ans) we can easily identify an imperative sentence in Active Voice because these sentences start with these words:
  1. The first form of any verb (V1)
  2. Do/Don’t
  3. Let us/Let’s
  4. Please/Kindly

Let’s look at all of them one by one:

  • Those active voice sentences start with [The first form of any verb].

There are two ways to change an active voice (sentence) which starts with the first form of any verb into passive voice (sentence).

  • Open the door. – (Active voice)
  1. You are ordered to close the door. (It is according to sense based.)
  2. Let the door be closed. (It is according to formula-based.)
  • Open the book. – (Active voice)
  • You are ordered to open the book.
  • Let the book be closed.

Note: If an active voice sentence starts with the first form of any verb and after the verb, a pronoun case is given, there are three ways to change into a passive voice.

  • Bring me a cup of coffee. (Active voice)
  1. You are ordered to bring me a cup of coffee.
  2. Let me be brought a cup of coffee.
  3. Let a cup of coffee be brought to me.

Active and Passive Voice Part-2

  • Those Active Voice (sentences) start with [Do/Don’t]
  • Do it again. (Active voice)
  • Let it be done again. (Passive voice)
  • Do it quickly. (Active voice)
  • Let it be done quickly. (Passive voice)
  • Don’t waste your time. (Active voice)
  • Let your time not be wasted. (Passive voice)

Note: If a sentence (active voice) starts with (Don’t) with two objects, there are four ways to change it into a passive voice.

  • Don’t tell them the answer. (Active voice)
  • Let them not be told the answer.
  • Let the answer not be told to them.
  • You are forbidden to tell them the answer.
  • You are ordered not to tell them the answer.
  • Don’t give him the money. (Active voice)
  • Let him not be given the money.
  • Let the money not be given to him.
  • You are forbidden to give him the money.
  • You are ordered not to give him the money.
  • Those active voice sentences start with [Let us/Let’s].

Note: If a sentence (active voice) starts with (Let us/Let’s), there are two ways to change it into passive voice.

  • Let us help the poor. (Active voice)
  • You are suggested to help the poor.
  • Let the poor be helped. [Let + object + be + Past participle]
  • Let us read the newspaper. (Active voice)
  • You are suggested to read the newspaper.
  • Let the newspaper be read.
  • Let us not disturb him. (Active voice)
  • You are suggested not to disturb him.
  • Let him not be disturbed.

Note: If a sentence (active voice) starts with (Please/Kindly), there are two ways to change it into a passive voice.

  • Please help me. (Active voice)
  • You are requested to help me. (sense-based)
  • I should be helped. [Object + should + be + helped]
  • Please clean your desk. (Active voice)
  • You are requested to clean your desk.
  • Your desk should be cleaned.

Active and Passive Voice Part-2

Note: If a sentence (active voice) starts with (Please/Kindly) with two objects, there are three ways to change it into a passive voice.

  • Please tell me the truth. (Active voice)
  • The truth should be told.
  • I should be told the truth.
  • You are requested to tell me the truth.

I have covered all the rules of Active and Passive voice in 2 parts. If still there is anything left from them I will cover them too as soon as possible.

Now I am giving a few sentences in active voice and you will have to change them into (passive voice) and will have to write them in the comments section.

  1. Open the window.
  2. Write an essay as soon as possible.
  3. Don’t play football
  4. Please write an application for me.
  5. Please come back to your classes.
  6. Let’s play a game together.
  7. Kindly help me in cleaning my room.
  8. Go and bring a cup of coffee for me.
  9. Let’s show our kindness.
  10. Don’t go outside of the house.
