Thai language, which is also known as the language of Bangkok Thai, Central Thai or Siamese dialects, is the native language of around about 65 million people. Thai language comes out of the Tai Kadai language family and is known to have its origins in Southern China . Thai language can be quite difficult to learn mainly because it is based on tones. In short, it is a tonal language. One word can have a number of meanings depending upon the tone being used when speaking. Let us take an example of the word "MAI". This word has a number of meanings depending on which tone it is being said. The meanings could be not, new, silk and wood. There are mainly five tones used in the Thai language and they are: low tone, mid tone, high tone, rising tone, and falling tone.
  Learning the Thai language is advantageous when a person is going for a visit to Thailand. If he or she has a basic knowledge of the Thai language and is able to use some Thai words or sentences, it will be highly appreciated by the locals and will also be useful in saving some money when shopping at the markets. Although some people might be afraid to speak Thai because they are not good at it and might inadvertently offend someone, the Thai people know that their language is hard to learn for foreigners and can usually figure out what you were trying to say.
There are several ways in which one can learn the Thai language. The best solution though is to visit Thailand and stay there for sometime. There you will be able to hear, understand, speak and read this language. You can even read newspapers magazines and watch TV shows.
Another way is to make Thai friends and communicate with them. This can either be done personally or through the internet.
Putting emphasis on reading and writing continuously will also help in learning Thai language. The more you practice, the quicker you will learn.
