Nowadays it's quite hard to find a learning resource for Latin but many years ago it was a regular school taught subject just like Maths and English. The reason for this is because Latin is the source of most of the words we use everyday languages. Knowing the root of so many words makes it easy to understand countless English words and to pick up the basics of any Romance language. At least 60% of words in the English language are derived from Latin and most, if not all, of the 206 bones in your body are Latin so if you are a scientist or planning to go into medicine, learning Latin will be a great bonus.
There are lots of great stories written in Latin that you will be able to enjoy. You will be able to read about the virtues of Hercules, Lucretia, and Coriolanus, about the vices of Cataline in the speeches of Cicero, and judge for yourself the virtues and/or vices of Julius Caesar in his own words. It's not all battles though. You can read about the party life of mediaeval students in their songs. You will learn about gods and goddesses, mythology, historical folks, and geographical references to help with present and future studies in history and literature. In order to learn any language well you need to learn the grammar and by learning Latin, all your groundwork in grammar will be done. It forms the structure of every language.
There is logic to Latin that is like an intellectual puzzle. It will train your mind and your memory like nothing else. It gives your brain a thorough intellectual workout! Employers tend to be impressed with candidates who know a classical language like Latin. Not only does it separate them from the masses of other applicants for a job but it shows that they have a mind trained in a logical way and can apply themselves to the ground rules of other subjects. It is particularly advantageous for those going into science and legal careers but also in education and government positions.
